Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has inaugurated a modern ICT and Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre in Onicha Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to drive digital literacy and youth empowerment across the state.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, described the project as a strategic investment in Delta’s future. Constructed by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and equipped by the state government through the Ministry of Science and Technology, the facility boasts 300 computer workstations, solar backup systems, power generators, office furnishings, and advanced ICT tools.
Governor Oborevwori noted that the centre will serve as a hub for online learning, digital innovation, and ICT-based examinations, positioning Delta youths to compete globally in the fast-growing digital economy.
He expressed appreciation to NDIC, former NDIC Board Member Ms. Diana Okonta, and immediate past Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for their contributions to making the initiative a reality.
Highlighting the project’s alignment with his MORE Agenda, the Governor stressed his administration’s commitment to equipping young people with technical knowledge and skills that would enable them to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Community leaders, traditional rulers, and dignitaries at the event lauded the Governor for the milestone and other ongoing infrastructure projects within Aniocha North, including the Issele-Asagba–Utulu Road, township roads in Onicha-Ugbo, and the upgrade of facilities at the College of Nursing, Onicha-Uku.
Oborevwori urged residents of Onicha Olona to safeguard the facility and maximise its use, describing it as “a bridge to the future, where no community in Delta is left behind in the digital revolution.”
