Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has strengthened the logistics and morale of the state’s leading football clubs, Warri Wolves and Delta Queens, with the donation of four brand-new buses.
The vehicles , two Toyota Coaster buses and two Toyota Hiace buses were formally presented to the teams on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba. Each club received one Coaster and one Hiace bus.
Governor Oborevwori said the donation was inspired by the need to address recent transportation hitches faced by the clubs due to aging vehicles. According to him, reliable mobility is a crucial part of his administration’s broader commitment to sports development across the state.
“Delta State is excelling in sports nationwide, but we must continue to support and motivate our athletes to do even better,” Oborevwori stated.
“I was informed that one of the teams had vehicle issues recently. That is why I immediately approved the procurement of new buses for both Warri Wolves and Delta Queens.”
The governor urged players and officials to remain disciplined, focused, and committed, noting that Delta State consistently rewards outstanding performances.
“This is to motivate you. We pay bonuses promptly when you win. Keep striving, keep winning, and keep making Delta proud,” he said.
Head Coach of Delta Queens, Samson Keshi, and team captain, Owoeye Temitope, speaking on behalf of the team, described the gesture as unprecedented. They expressed gratitude to the governor, promising to work harder to secure more laurels for the state.
With both clubs currently active in Nigeria’s top leagues, the new buses are expected to ease logistics, boost morale, and enhance performance. The move also reinforces Delta’s reputation as Nigeria’s sporting powerhouse, with Governor Oborevwori pledging continued investment in grassroots and elite sports.
