Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has criticised the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) over the recurring power outages affecting communities across Delta State, accusing the company of failing to distribute electricity supplied by Transcorp Power Plc. He said many residents are suffering unnecessarily even though power is available.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Transcorp Power’s vocational training programme in Ughelli, the governor urged both companies to address the lapses in their operations.
He stressed that steady electricity is crucial not just for households and businesses, but also for the newly trained graduates who hope to start small ventures.
Meanwhile, Peter Ikenga, the MD/CEO of Transcorp Power, restated the company’s dedication to supporting its host communities. He highlighted more than ten years of focused projects aimed at improving education, infrastructure, and economic development.
Ikenga mentioned several recent interventions, such as repairing transformers, extending power lines, supplying school furniture, and providing modern ICT tools to enhance digital learning.
He said these efforts are designed to build local capacity and equip young people for careers in today’s technology-driven world.
