Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has cautioned members of the State Executive Council that continued service will be based strictly on performance, not rumours or sycophancy.
Speaking on Monday, during the commissioning of eight new duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba, the Governor praised commissioners for their loyalty but made it clear that underperformance would not be overlooked.
“There are rumours of Exco dissolution. Ignore them. I haven’t said anything. But if you’re not performing, you’ll be dropped,” he said. “I told one commissioner today at the chapel — you’re not doing well.”
He urged commissioners to be proactive and visible. “Don’t wait for me. Come with your memos, show energy and initiative. If you’re not seen, you’re not working,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized individual accountability. “If a ministry is failing, hold the commissioner responsible. If it’s doing well, the commissioner deserves the credit.”

He also highlighted plans to replicate a model of commissioning projects from a central location, as done by the President, starting Wednesday in Warri.
On the newly inaugurated duplexes, the Governor said the decision was necessary as the previous 22 buildings at the quarters couldn’t accommodate all commissioners. Each of the eight new four-bedroom duplexes includes two boys’ quarters, expanding the number of official residences for commissioners from 22 to 30.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori noted that housing commissioners within a central location enhances collaboration, strengthens team cohesion, and contributes to their overall well-being.
He emphasized that dignified and functional housing is essential for boosting morale and improving the quality of governance.
The project addresses a long-standing accommodation gap and aims to provide a more conducive living environment for senior government officials.
The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), honoured the commissioning by inaugurating the units.
Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, thanked the Governor for the initiative and requested renovation of the older quarters. Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, detailed the project’s scope and commended the Governor’s support.
