Oborevwori lauds Uduaghan, FGC Warri class of 1972/74

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has lauded former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and his class of 1972/74 at the Federal Government College, Warri as they celebrate their anniversary.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme at a banquet organized by the former governor at his residence in Warri on Saturday, to celebrate the golden jubilee anniversary with his class of 1972/74 at FGC Warri described the former governor as a blessing to the state.

“It is gratifying to note that the Federal Government College Warri, has produced leaders that continue to shape our history as a nation and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is one of such men. Delta State is blessed to have had him as a Governor.”

Oborevwori urged the alumni association of the school to continue to contribute their quota towards sustaining the quality of the school, adding that his administration was focused on building the educational sector in the state to an enviable height of academic excellence.

“The Federal Government College Warri like similar Federal Government Colleges of the 1960s was founded to breed a generation of Nigerians for the onerous task of nation building.

“Renowned for academic excellence and character development, the school was the dream and desire of every young man. It was not just that you are guaranteed quality education but also that being a student of the school entitled you to some bragging rights. I recall that students of the school were the envy of their peers.

“I am glad that the Alumni of the school have remained connected and united. Occasions such as today bring back fond memories of the past.

“I urge you to also think of ways you can help the school regain its pride of place in our educational system.

“As a government, we are committed to providing a conducive learning climate in state-owned institutions while empowering the students with the knowledge to compete in the global marketplace.”

Responding, governor Uduaghan said his class of 1972/74 of the school was joyous as they celebrated their 50 years after their secondary school life.

“Today is a very exciting day for me, we are celebrating 50 years of leaving college. We are celebrating a glorious time for Nigeria. Things are tough, things are hard but expectedly, we will come out of it.”

Uduaghan also thanked the deputy governor for coming to represent Governor Oborevwori.

“Your Excellency, the Deputy Governor, thank you for coming to represent the current Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, I am happy that you are here.

“I want to particularly thank you because you came early, from the bottom of my heart, I say, God bless you.”

The former governor also poured encomiums on his darling wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Roli Uduaghan.

Some other prominent Deltans at the event were the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Dr Emmanuel Sideso Abe I, His Royal Majesty, King Obukohwo Monday Whiskey JP, Udurhie I, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, prominent Chiefs from various kingdoms, including Warri kingdom who represented the Olu of Warri, Chairman Warri south local government area, Dr. Michael Tidi, and many others.

A minute silence had earlier been observed for members of the class that had passed on.
