Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday 24 November 2025 hosted the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla Idi Abbas, on a courtesy visit to Government House, Asaba.
The visit, part of the Naval Chief’s nationwide tour of naval commands, focused on assessing operational readiness and addressing challenges faced by formations in Delta, Nigeria’s oil and gas heartland.
Vice Admiral Abbas underscored Delta’s strategic importance to the nation’s economy, stressing the Navy’s resolve to protect critical national assets in the Niger Delta.
He commended Governor Oborevwori for enhanced support to naval bases and the prevailing calm on Delta waterways, which he said has significantly boosted crude oil production.
“The peace we enjoy today on the waterways is a direct result of the excellent collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the Delta State Government,” Abbas said.
Responding, Governor Oborevwori congratulated the Naval Chief on his well-deserved appointment and praised the Navy’s professionalism in securing the nation’s maritime domain, combating piracy, and protecting oil installations.
He described security as the bedrock of his administration’s MORE Agenda, noting that the sustained harmony in Delta is a product of robust synergy among security agencies and the state government.
Oborevwori assured continued logistical and moral support to the Navy, pledging that Delta will remain a safe and investor-friendly state.
“The Nigerian Navy has been a dependable partner in our quest for peace and development. We will sustain this collaboration to keep Delta secure and prosperous,” the Governor declared.
The courtesy call further strengthened the existing bond between the Delta State Government and the Nigerian Navy in safeguarding national assets and sustaining the prevailing peace across the state’s vast waterways.
