Oborevwori Pledges Stronger Healthcare System in Delta, Rolls Out Major Investments

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has reiterated his administration’s resolve to reposition Delta’s healthcare system through consistent investment in infrastructure, modern technology, and improved welfare for medical professionals.

The Governor gave the assurance while hosting the executive members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Delta State chapter, led by its Chairman, Dr. Israel Adaigho, at Government House, Asaba.

He highlighted strides already made by his administration, including the deployment of eight dialysis machines across Asaba Specialist Hospital, Central Hospital Warri, and DELSUTH Oghara; the procurement of three MRI scanners, one for each senatorial district; and the installation of CT scan and echocardiography machines. The trauma and orthopaedic department at Central Hospital, Warri, has also been upgraded to meet modern standards.

Governor Oborevwori disclosed that over three million Deltans are currently registered under the state health insurance scheme, the highest in the country. He reaffirmed that free medical care for pregnant women and children under five remains in place.

Beyond infrastructure, he noted that his government has fully implemented the new CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures, funded residency training, and enhanced emergency medical response systems.

“Healthcare is at the heart of our MORE Agenda. We will continue to prioritize the health of our people and the welfare of those who serve in the sector,” Oborevwori stated.

Responding to concerns raised by the NMA on manpower shortages, the Governor assured that recruitment and capacity development would be strengthened to close existing gaps. As a gesture of support, he also approved the release of a bus to facilitate the Association’s operations.

The NMA leadership commended the Governor for his proactive approach and pledged continued collaboration with government to deliver quality healthcare to residents.
