The long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 12-kilometre Okpanam–Ugbolu Road has been postponed due to heavy rain in the area.
Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was set to lead the ceremony on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, as part of his administration’s push to improve road infrastructure and enhance connectivity within the Asaba Capital Territory.
However, a statement released Tuesday morning by Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), explained that the event was rescheduled because the heavy rainfall made the venue unsuitable for the ceremony.
Aniagwu expressed the Governor’s apologies to all invited guests and residents of Okpanam, Ugbolu, and nearby communities, assuring them that a new date for the event will be announced shortly.
He stressed that the project is a key part of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, aimed at bringing meaningful development, creating opportunities for everyone, implementing practical reforms, and promoting greater peace and security throughout Delta State.
Earlier, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, called the Okpanam–Ugbolu Road project a significant move to enhance the road network, reduce traffic congestion, and create new economic and residential opportunities in the state capital area.
