Participants to the Eighty-fourth Joint Consultative Council on Education have been charged to produce policy decisions that will elevate Nigeria to new heights of academic excellence, equity and socio-economic prosperity.
Declaring open the forum held at Okpanam Community, a suburb of Asaba, the Delta State Capital, Governor Sherrif Oborevwori said quality education data, and a well-trained teacher are vital to improving students’ performance and achievement.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, observed that the establishment of a Teachers Professional Development Centre in 2016 which remained functional till date was informed by the desire to boost productivity and professionalism of teachers through regular in-service training.
He called on the participants to harness the power of collaboration, innovation, and unity to turn identified challenges into opportunities to move our educational system forward.
The Governor lauded the theme for the forum, “Quality Education Data and Professionalisation of Teaching: A Tool for Enhanced National Development.” stating that, one of the major drawbacks of Nigeria as a nation was the absence of data in virtually all sectors of the national economy.`
Governor Oborevwori asserted that this condition had made proper planning and arrival at informed decisions difficult for the political leadership on many fronts.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education and chairman of the Eighty-fourth Joint Consultative Committee on Education Plenary Meeting, Mr. Abel Enitan noted that insisting on data-driven policy formulation and encouraging a highly competent teaching workforce, would lead to enhanced educational outcomes with remarkable impacts on our human capital development quotient.
The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Johnbull Nyerhovwo Tonukaren had urged stakeholders drawn from across the federation to take advantage of the forum to bring out practical resolutions to boost the education sector in the country.
