Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, on Tuesday 16 December 2025 assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N1.729 trillion, tagged “Budget of Accelerating the MORE Agenda,” along with three other critical bills passed by the State House of Assembly.
The signing ceremony, held in Asaba, paves the way for accelerated infrastructure development, improved security, and enhanced social welfare programmes across the state.
The other bills signed into law include the Delta State Social Investment Programme Law, the Delta State Colleges of Education Law, 2025, and the Delta State Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Law, 2025.
Addressing stakeholders present, Governor Oborevwori described the budget as “not just a budget of figures, but one of vision, action, and deliverables,” stressing that his administration would “hit the ground running” in 2026 to fast-track growth in key sectors.
The N1,729,881,208,779 estimate marks over 70 per cent increase from the 2025 budget, with 70 per cent allocated to capital expenditure and 30 per cent to recurrent, highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure-driven development.
Governor Oborevwori noted that 2025 saw intensified investments in infrastructure, security, and revenue generation without extra tax burdens on citizens, boosting internally generated revenue through reforms.
He explained that the Social Investment Programme Law ensures equitable, grassroots access to resources for vulnerable groups; the Colleges of Education Law standardises operations, enabling concurrent award of NCE and degree certificates to train more teachers; while the Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism Amendment strengthens measures against cultism and related crimes.
The governor lauded the House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, leadership, and members for timely passage, praising executive-legislature synergy. He also thanked stakeholders and Deltans, wishing them a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
Earlier, Speaker Guwor said the bills underwent rigorous scrutiny and consultations, emphasising their role in promoting inclusive growth, quality education, security, and good governance.
