Oborevwori Tasks Leaders on People-Centred Governance as Ultra-Modern Cottage Hospital is Commissioned in Iteregbi

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on political leaders at all levels to prioritize projects that deliver tangible benefits to citizens, emphasizing that public service must always translate into improved living standards for the people.

The Governor gave the charge on Monday during the commissioning of the new Ultra-Modern Cottage Hospital in Iteregbi, Uvwie Local Government Area, a project built and furnished by the administration of Hon. Anthony Ofoni, Chairman of Uvwie LGA.

Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the Governor commended Hon. Ofoni for his visionary leadership and dedication to grassroots development. He noted that the project aligns perfectly with his administration’s MORE Agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

“You have done very well,” Oborevwori said. “When you aspire to lead, it must be to add value to people’s lives. I commend you for demonstrating the true essence of leadership by improving healthcare access and supporting the MORE Agenda.”

The Governor also praised local government chairmen across Delta for replicating similar impact-driven initiatives, stating that such developmental strides were redefining grassroots governance in the state. He assured residents that his administration would consider requests made by the Uvwie Council Chairman and the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel E. Sideso (JP, OON), including the completion of the Mother and Child Hospital in Ekpan, power supply to Oregha Community, and construction of the Ohorhe 1–Oregha access road.

In his address, Hon. Anthony Ofoni said the hospital project reflects his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery and inclusive community development. He disclosed that the facility is fully solar-powered, well-equipped, and includes residential quarters for medical staff, ensuring uninterrupted services.

Ofoni also outlined other notable achievements under his tenure, including the construction of modern markets in Ekpan, Ugboroke, and Ugbomro/Atata, perimeter fencing of Effurun Market, rehabilitation of roads, engagement of women for daily street cleaning, and educational support for over 1,500 pupils.

On his part, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Sideso, commended both the state and local governments for their partnership in community development while urging continued support for ongoing infrastructure projects across Uvwie.

The newly commissioned Iteregbi Cottage Hospital is expected to provide vital medical services to thousands of residents across Uvwie and neighbouring communities, marking another milestone in Delta State’s healthcare transformation drive.
