Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been selected to receive the Award of Excellence in Leadership at the 2025 International Conference on Hydrocarbon Science and Technology (ICHST), organised by the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State.
The prestigious recognition, conveyed in a formal letter signed by PTI Registrar, Mr. Isaac Fregene, celebrates Governor Oborevwori’s visionary leadership and strategic contributions to the oil and gas industry. PTI cited his administration’s forward-looking policies and commitment to sustainable development as key factors driving economic stability and innovation in the hydrocarbon sector.
According to the institute, the Governor’s emphasis on transparency, inclusiveness, and innovation has not only repositioned Delta as a leading oil-producing state but also provided a governance model that aligns economic growth with environmental responsibility.
The two-day conference, themed “Transforming Africa’s Hydrocarbon Sector: Balancing Growth, Environment and Governance,” will convene leading energy regulators, experts, and industry stakeholders from across the continent. Among the expected participants are representatives from the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), NNPC Academy, NNPC Research, Technology and Innovation (RTI), and Cyphercrescent.
The event is scheduled to hold from October 22 to 23, 2025, at the PTDF Towers, Central Business District, Abuja. The award presentation ceremony will take place during the official opening session on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 10 a.m.
In its statement, PTI praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership as “a catalyst for sustainable energy reform,” noting that Delta State’s strategic investments in infrastructure, environmental management, and community development have positioned it as a vital player in Nigeria’s ongoing energy transition.
The institute emphasized that the award represents a national endorsement of Delta’s progressive approach to balancing economic advancement with responsible governance in the hydrocarbon space.
Governor Oborevwori’s recognition, PTI added, reflects the growing acknowledgment of Delta State’s role as a model for resource management, environmental stewardship, and inclusive policy formulation in Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape.
