Oborevwori Unveils Revamped Ogulagha‑Okontu‑Odimodi Road, Promises Lifeline for Local Communities

In a ceremony marked by cultural celebration and community excitement, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori officially opened the newly upgraded Ogulagha‑Okontu‑Odimodi Road, a strategic infrastructure project seen as a game‑changer for connectivity and economic activity in the area.

Traditional dancers provided a colourful backdrop as the governor and other dignitaries cut the ribbon and exchanged handshakes with residents cheering along the route.

The 12.1 km Odimodi-Okuntu-Ogulagha road in Burutu Local Government Area, is a project aimed at enhancing connectivity in Nigeria’s oil-rich but isolated riverine communities.

The newly constructed road, funded by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) at a cost of N5.2 billion, was approved earlier in 2025 as part of a broader ₦8.4 billion investment in rural infrastructure.

Governor Oborevwori,  emphasized the road’s role in bridging the gap for communities long dependent on waterways for transport.

The event featured a ceremonial walkthrough, with the governor and dignitaries navigating the route, symbolizing the end of chronic isolation for local fishing and trading communities.

The project is expected to boost economic activities by improving access to markets and services, addressing a critical need in Delta State’s oil-producing areas.

This infrastructure push aligns with the state’s commitment to balanced development, as articulated by Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) Charles Aniagwu, who noted the administration’s focus on ensuring no community is left behind.

The road’s completion is seen as a step towards fostering peace and economic growth in historically neglected regions.

The Odimodi-Okuntu-Ogulagha road stands as a testament to the government’s resolve to transform the lives of its citizens through strategic infrastructure development.
