Prominent APC leader in Delta State and former Commissioner for Finance, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, has praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s 2026 budget proposal, describing it as bold, forward-looking, and capable of unlocking Delta State’s growth potential.
In a press statement reviewing the budget highlights, Okumagba expressed satisfaction with the administration’s sustained commitment to funding infrastructure. He noted that capital projects continue to dominate the budget at 70 percent. According to him, allocating 70 percent of the ₦1.664 trillion budget to capital expenditure clearly shows the state government’s dedication to ongoing infrastructural development. He added that the economic impact will be significant once these projects begin to yield results in 2026.
Okumagba also commended the governor’s determination to fully implement the MORE Agenda, which he believes will boost the state’s economy and improve the lives of residents. He further applauded the increased spending on agriculture, emphasizing that the sector holds enormous potential for Delta State. He noted that higher allocations to both economic and social sectors would spur growth and development across the state.
The proposed 2026 budget of ₦1.664 trillion represents a ₦685 billion increase about 70 percent over the 2025 budget.
Speaking on the major development projects currently underway, Okumagba highlighted the flyovers being constructed in Asaba, Agbor, Ughelli, and Effurun; drainage projects in Warri–Uvwie and Asaba; and widespread road rehabilitation. He said these initiatives show that Governor Oborevwori is addressing the state’s most pressing needs.
Okumagba also praised the enhanced funding for the education and health sectors. He noted the significance of the D-Cares social intervention program, which will provide monthly stipends and free health insurance to 307,600 beneficiaries and 10,000 widows.
On security—an area of concern in recent years—he welcomed the creation of a security trust fund and the increased allocation for drone surveillance, border control, improved support for security agencies, and strengthened vigilante networks. He believes that if these measures are fully implemented, they will help address lingering security challenges.
Okumagba urged Governor Oborevwori to remain consistent with the direction his administration has taken since 2023, noting that the positive impact of his governance is becoming increasingly evident. He also commended the governor’s vision of building a Delta State where no one is left behind.
