Ofili Shines in Texas with 10.78s Victory at ATX Sprint Classic

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili achieved a new personal best and clinched victory in the women’s 100m final at the ATX Sprint Classic in Texas.

The 22-year-old athlete, amidst rumors about her possible transfer to Turkey, rose above the noise to deliver an impressive performance in her heat, clocking a time of 10.87s, which broke her previous best of 10.94s. This accomplishment earned her a place in the final, surpassing American sprinter Kayla White, who finished her heat with a time of 11.07s.

At the same event, Rosemary Chukwuma also competed in the women’s 100m heats at the ATX Sprint Classic. She performed admirably in her heat with a time of 10.93s, allowing her to advance to the final, ahead of Olympic champion Gabby Thomas from the United States, while Success Umukoro placed third in her heat with a time of 11.43s.

As the final began, Ofili demonstrated her dominance, crossing the line first in a time of 10.78s, which set yet another personal best for her. Olympic champion Gabby Thomas finished in second place with a time of 10.95s, while rising talent Kayla White secured third with a time of 10.97s.

Ofili, who currently holds the Nigerian record for the 200m at 21.96s, made her return to the competition after gaining fame the previous month for breaking the women’s 150m world record at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, clocking an astonishing 15.85s.

In contrast, Rosemary Chukwuma, who had earlier improved her season best time by winning her heat, faced disappointment in the final, finishing fifth with a time of 10.98s.

The 23-year-old Chukwuma has shown impressive form lately, having run a season’s best time of 11.03s at the Star Athletics Sprint Series in Florida earlier this month, which earned her a spot at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The 2025 ATX Sprint Classic was a one-day event held at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
