The leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Unions at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku comprising the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has distanced itself from the ongoing strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
In a joint statement, signed by Comrade Andrew Ayewumi, Chairman of NASU and the Joint Unions of Polytechnics, and Comrade Emeke Owabor Godchoice, Chairman of SSANIP and Secretary of the Joint Polytechnics, the unions described ASUP’s action as unnecessary, unilateral, and not reflective of the collective interests of all staff members at the institution.
The statement called on the public, parents, and students to ignore the two-week warning strike announced by ASUP, stressing that it does not represent the views or interests of the Polytechnic’s non-academic staff.
It emphasized that NASU and SSANIP are committed to peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement as the best way to resolve disputes. Members were also instructed to carry on with their regular duties, ensuring that both academic and administrative activities at the Polytechnic continue without disruption.
The unions clarified that ASUP’s decision to go on strike was unilateral and not a collective union decision, emphasizing that NASU and SSANIP have no outstanding grievances with the Polytechnic’s management or Governing Council.
The statement also reaffirmed the non-academic staff unions’ commitment to industrial harmony, pledging their support for the state government’s efforts to maintain stability and advance technical education in Delta State.
