Ogwashi-Uku Rejects Ibusa’s Claim of Supreme Court Verdict

The Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom has rejected claims by the Ibusa community that the Supreme Court has issued a final ruling on their boundary dispute. Palace officials clarified that the matter is still before the Delta State High Court under Suit No. AKU/11/2024, making any suggestion of a conclusive judgment premature. They noted that both communities remain parties to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Tensions escalated after Ibusa residents staged a protest at the Government House, demanding enforcement of what they said was a Supreme Court decision. In response, Ogwashi-Uku emphasized that River Oboshi remains the historically recognized boundary and official local government demarcation line. The kingdom warned that public demonstrations over matters still before the courts could interfere with the judicial process.

Ogwashi-Uku also raised concerns over the appearance of certain survey documents that it said attempt to extend claims over areas not covered in the current suit. The community stressed that it has consistently pursued legal avenues despite past disputes. It further clarified that issues regarding the location of Admiralty University are being addressed in a separate case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Welcoming the Delta State Government’s call for calm, Ogwashi-Uku reaffirmed its commitment to letting the judiciary resolve the conflict. The kingdom stated that it will continue to seek justice through the courts and expressed confidence that the rule of law will ultimately provide a fair resolution.
