Ohrere Community in Ughelli North Protest on Prolonged Power Outage

Ohrere Community in Ughelli North protest prolonged power outage prevail on the management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, to connect their transformer and restore power supply to the community.

The residents who made this appeal during a peaceful protest in the community, noted that the prolonged power outage has brought untold economic hardship to the community.

Some placards carrying residents of Ohrere community Agbarho Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area walked round the community chanting “On the mandate of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori we shall stand.”

The residents who included Comrade Osas Onataro and a retired School Principal Mrs Esther Awaritefe commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his huge development strides across the State.

They noted that, the community has been in darkness for a long time as a result of their faulty transformer which BEDC officials said needs to be replaced.

The residents alleged that they contributed money to buy a new transformer but officials of BEDC are requesting for a huge amount of money to connect the transformer.

They appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to prevail on the management of BEDC to connect the transformer and restore power to the community noting that the prolonged power outage has crippled economic activities in the community, heightened insecurity forcing many residents to relocate.

The resident also appealed to Governor Oborevwori to prevail on the contractors handling the Ohrere-Otokutu link road and other access roads in the community to ensure its speedy completion as its present state has made it almost impossible to access their homes.

They pledged their support for the re-election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
