Okowa brought peace to College of Education, Warri – Provost

The Provost of College of Education (COE), Warri, Dr. Dickson Oyovwi has stated that former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa brought peace to the college as he disclosed that Senator Okowa reinstated 99 staff of the institution that were laid off in 2012.

Speaking on his 2nd anniversary of his appointment as provost of the college on Wednesday 21st June, 2023, Oyovwi recalled that there was a lingering case on the laid off staff since 2012.

He therefore inferred that Senator Okowa’s gesture had brought peace to the college.

“We are indeed grateful to him,” he added.

The Provost also disclosed that on assumption of office, he was able to attract Delta State Government and other agencies on the renovation of structures that were destroyed by storm and created some structures.

“We have been able to access TETFUND without any stress.

“There is also a noticeable increase in the number of students enrollments in our degree and NCE programme,” he added.

Speaking on the prospects of the college, he revealed that the college was looking at the completion of all unfinished projects on campus, especially the administration building started by DESOPADEC in 2010 and the TETFUND projects started in 2012.

Oyovwi further averred that the College of Education had embarked on a student hostel on campus which he said was in an advance stage to combine with the existing one that was operated on public private partnership (PPP), ”so that we can have more students activities on campus”, he stated.

The Provost also identified finance as one of the major challenges confronting the college as he stressed that adequate finance was needed to meet the ever increasing demands of the College of Education, Warri.

He however gladly stated that besides the challenge of finance, ”the journey has been good so far”.
