Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past Governor of Delta State, on Wednesday 03 December 2025 hosted the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, and his wife on a courtesy and congratulatory visit to his Asaba residence.
During the visit, Senator Basiru described Dr. Okowa as “a visionary leader who believes in raising more leaders and the betterment of all Nigerians.”
The APC scribe’s warm remarks underscored the growing cross-party goodwill towards the former governor following his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
Present at the occasion were Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, and Rt. Hon. Victor Nwokolo, member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The visit coincided with the widespread commendation of President Tinubu’s decision to name Okowa as the South-South Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Prominent real estate magnate and political stakeholder, Comrade Stanley Otoma, hailed the appointment as “strategic and forward-thinking,” insisting it was designed to bolster the President’s re-election prospects in the region.

“Dr. Okowa’s performance as governor was top-notch. He was fair, just and equitable to all Deltans irrespective of political leaning. His wealth of experience in politics and governance makes him the perfect ambassador to sell President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda in the South-South,” Otoma stated.
He added that the appointment demonstrates President Tinubu’s willingness to look “beyond immediate political gains” and select individuals with proven capacity to deliver results.
Political observers say Okowa’s new role and the APC national secretary’s visit signal a deliberate effort to court influential opposition figures ahead of future electoral contests in the Niger Delta.
