His Majesty Ògíamẹ̀ Atuwatsé III CFR, the Olú of Warri, joined other dignitaries in celebrating the 10th Coronation Anniversary of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife. His presence added royal prestige to a ceremony rich in culture, symbolism and enduring heritage.
A major highlight of the event was the conferment of the title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oòduà on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The honour recognized her contributions to cultural unity, social development and her influence within the Yoruba cultural sphere.
Beyond the pageantry, the celebration served as a reminder of the deep historical ties connecting the thrones of Ife, Benin and Warri.
By ancestral succession, the Throne of the Olú of Warri — through its historic linkage to the Throne of the Oba of Benin — is considered a “grandson” to the Throne of Ife. Within that lineage, the Oba of Benin is traditionally regarded as the younger brother to the Olú of Warri, reflecting a shared royal ancestry that has shaped centuries of interwoven cultural identity.
That heritage was unmistakably present at the ceremony. The gathering showcased not only the grandeur of royalty but also the quiet strength of tradition — a moment where history acknowledged its own continuity and the bonds between ancient kingdoms were reaffirmed.
The anniversary stood as a celebration of leadership, cultural legacy and the enduring respect among Nigeria’s great royal houses.
