Members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State have been urged to welcome and work collaboratively with the new members who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the goal of building a strong and united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
This appeal came from Archbishop Philip Orovwuje, APC Leader for Ward 4 in Ethiope East Local Government Area. He emphasized that despite the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other PDP members, the Governor remains the leader of the APC in Delta State, just as President Bola Tinubu continues to lead the party at the national level.
Archbishop Orovwuje explained that the Governor oversees the state’s party affairs, and in line with party tradition, those who joined the APC alongside him have the same rights and privileges as long-standing APC members.
As the Presiding Bishop and Founder of Garden of Life Assembly in Effurun, Archbishop Orovwuje shared that the President has assured that by the end of 2025, all current APC structures will be dissolved to allow for a new Congress. He encouraged members to be patient and await this Congress, which will help streamline the party’s activities moving forward.
He urged current APC members to stay calm and focused, encouraging them to meet with Governor Oborevwori to choose the leaders who will guide the party. He emphasized the importance of working together harmoniously with the recent defectors and advised everyone to patiently await the upcoming Congress, which is just around the corner.
He noted that just as Governor Oborevwori is making positive strides in Delta State, President Tinubu is also performing well at the federal level. He urged Nigerians to be patient and support the government to ensure its success.
Regarding the potential conflict in Warri over ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency, Archbishop Orovwuje expressed his view that the crisis is unnecessary and avoidable.
