History was made on the morning of Tuesday, October 7, 2025, as prominent Warri-based lawyer, Chief Andi Kayoma Osawota, was officially crowned the first Ovie (traditional ruler) of the historic Urhobo Kingdom of Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In his inaugural speech, he credited his emergence as the Ovie of Orogun Kingdom to the grace and will of God.
The former Executive Secretary of DESOPADEC also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Orogun for their support and trust in choosing him as their traditional ruler.
The Ovie of Orogun Kingdom declared that he will be officially addressed as *Adaka I*.
He noted that the long absence of a traditional ruler had deprived the kingdom of many valuable opportunities and benefits.
Adaka I called on the people of Orogun for their support and prayers to help him successfully carry out his positive plans for the kingdom.
Addressing those who opposed his emergence as Ovie, he remarked that opposition is not uncommon, especially when it comes to the installation of a traditional ruler.
He clarified that his emergence as the Ovie of Orogun Kingdom does not diminish or invalidate the role of the current Okparuku of the kingdom.
Adaka I was quick to add, however, that the institution of the Ovie marks a new chapter for Orogun Kingdom, and while this new structure is now in place, the current Okparuku remains recognized and respected until the end of his tenure.
Agbonifo, who holds the title of *Edjenakpo* (Lioness) of Orogun Kingdom, described the development as a positive and transformative step. “This is a welcome development. Life is about change and progress. We’re excited to have an enlightened and digital Ovie who will lead us into a brighter future. With Adaka I as our Ovie, I believe we’ve already arrived at that promised land,” she said.
The highlight of the historic event was the traditional installation of Chief Andi Kayoma Osawota as the Ovie of Orogun Kingdom, carried out by the kingdom’s Chief Priest (*Ukomo*), Chief Thomas Onovughe—a moment that sparked widespread celebration among those in attendance.
The ceremony was witnessed by a broad gathering of Orogun kingmakers, including the *Ekpara* or their representatives, members of the *Okparuku in Council*, chiefs, and other dignitaries.
Before his installation as the Ovie of Orogun Kingdom, Adaka I held the prestigious title of Ogba (strong man) of the kingdom.
