Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, on Tuesday inspected the ongoing expansion and dual drainage construction along Umejei Road in Ibusa, a flagship project under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
The multi-million naira road project, which has reached advanced stages, is already delivering visible economic dividends to the community through improved access and increased commercial activities.
Speaking during the inspection, Esewezie cautioned residents and business owners against indiscriminate refuse disposal into the newly constructed drains and erection of illegal structures across drainage channels.
“These drains are built to last and serve our people effectively. Throwing waste inside them or building on drainage paths will only create flooding and defeat the purpose of this massive investment by the state government,” the chairman warned.
He stressed that the Delta State Government, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, is delivering quality infrastructure to transform communities, urging residents to protect the facilities.
In furtherance of the PUTA-IFE M.O.R.E Agenda blueprint and to complement the state government’s efforts, Hon. Esewezie announced the immediate constitution of a special enforcement committee to ensure strict compliance with approved beautification standards for all commercial buildings along the Umejei Road corridor.
The committee, according to the council boss, will commence work without delay to maintain aesthetic uniformity and enhance the road’s outlook.
Residents and traders who spoke with newsmen commended Governor Oborevwori and the local government chairman for the life-changing project, pledging to support efforts to sustain the infrastructure.
The Umejei Road dualisation remains one of the most strategic infrastructure projects in Oshimili North, expected to boost socio-economic activities upon completion.
