Oshimili South constituency quiz winners get cash rewards

The Oshimili South State Constituency 2024 Quiz Competition for primary and secondary schools concluded in Asaba, Delta State, with impressive results.

Government Model Secondary School, Asaba emerged as the winner in the senior secondary category, defeating Niger Mixed Secondary School and Zappa Mixed Secondary School, who took second and third places respectively.

In the junior secondary category, Government Model Secondary School also claimed first place, surpassing Isioma Onyeobi Secondary School and Osadenis High School, both from Asaba.

The winners in the senior and junior categories each received cash prizes of N300,000 and N150,000, respectively.

In the primary school category, Ahabam Primary School, Asaba clinched first place, beating Ogbeafor and Abuator Primary Schools, both from Asaba.

The competition, which saw the participation of 26 primary and secondary schools, was organized by the office of Hon. (Barrister) Bridget Anyafulu, the member representing Oshimili South Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

It was held in collaboration with Uncle Jude’s Lesson Nigeria and Mathematics Without Walk Organisation.

Flagged off on November 25, the competition featured various academic categories, including English language, spelling bee, and Mathematics quizzes for primary school students (primary four to six), junior secondary school students (JSS 1-3), and senior secondary school students (SSS 1-3), with subjects such as spelling, mathematics, chemistry, and physics.

At the grand finale, held at Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu emphasized the importance of strengthening the intellectual capacity of students in Oshimili South.

She highlighted that in today’s digital age, capacity building is crucial for the younger generation to stay competitive globally.

She encouraged the children to aim high, stressing that determination and robust capacity building could lead them to success in various fields.

Hon. Anyafulu also expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for fostering team spirit among leaders, which played a significant role in the competition’s success.

She commended stakeholders, especially teachers, for their contributions.

The Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, and the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, along with the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, all praised the initiative, noting that such programs help to develop students’ intellectual capabilities and instill competitiveness early on.

The event’s chairman, Engr. Anthony Igbeke, who was also Hon. Anyafulu’s former secondary school teacher, congratulated the participating schools for their excellent performances.

He commended Hon. Anyafulu for giving the students the platform to showcase their knowledge.

The event concluded with the presentation of cheques to the winning schools and educational materials, including exercise books, mathematical sets, pens, and school bags to the participating children.
