Osimhen Apologizes for World Cup Qualifier Setbacks

Super Eagles star striker Victor Osimhen has issued a heartfelt apology to Nigerian fans following the national team’s disappointing performances in their recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles drew 1-1 with South Africa and then suffered a surprising 2-1 loss to Benin earlier last month, significantly jeopardizing their chances of qualifying for the global tournament.

Speaking in an exclusive interview ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Morocco, the Napoli forward promised that the squad is determined to fight for victory in every game. Osimhen emphasized the team’s commitment to redemption, particularly after their impressive run to the final of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast earlier this year.

“We understand the frustration of the fans, and we take full responsibility for our recent results,” Osimhen stated. “We promise to fight to win every game and deliver the performances the nation expects.”

Osimhen also highlighted the strong team unity under the current coaching staff and praised captain William Troost-Ekong. “The bond within this team is stronger than ever,” Osimhen commented. “We are united in our goal to bring the trophy home and lift the three-time African champions back to where they belong on the continental stage.” The Super Eagles will be looking to their upcoming AFCON campaign to reclaim their glory and make amends for the recent World Cup qualification struggles.
