The Royal father of Idjerhe kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Ovie Monday Obukowho Whiskey (Udurhie I), has expressed deep concern over the poor condition of federal roads in the South-South region, calling them “death traps.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, Whiskey highlighted a number of key roads that are in terrible condition — including the Benin By-pass, Benin-Sapele, Sapele-Warri, Warri-Ughelli, Ughelli-Patani, Patani-Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt-Eket, and Port Harcourt-Calabar routes.
He expressed concern that the worsening state of these roads is taking a serious toll on both the region’s economy and its security.
The monarch urged the Federal Government to take advantage of the brief dry season in the Niger Delta to repair the most hazardous sections of the roads.
