Ovu Foundation has empowered primary school pupils in Ovu Communities of Ethiope East Local Government Area with writing materials such as notebooks, biros, rulers and pencils.
The handing over ceremony took place at Ovu Model Primary School, Oviorie, Ethiope East Local Government Area.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, President of the Foundation, said that the Foundation, a Non- Governmental established with the desire of some of the elites of the Community’s origin to give back to the community what they have gained.
According to him, the Foundation has been in existence for the past 15 years, he disclosed that the distribution was the 11th they are carrying out adding that the Foundation also organizes quiz competitions, gives academic scholarships to qualified Primary Schools graduating pupils, teacher development programmes, provision of uniforms and educational sensitization for students.
The President of the Foundation said that with the current trend in educational system in the country, the Foundation has initiated the construction of Computer Base Test(CBT) Centre at Oviorie-Ovu which is almost completed.
According to Prof. Rim-Rukeh, “the Foundation, going by the current trend in the educational sector in the country, has initiated the construction of Computer Base Test at Oviorie-Ovu which is currently nearing completion”
He said that educational materials distribution for tbe day includes 800 copies of 2 A and B exercise books, 300 copies of 40 leaves and 3,600 copies of 60 leaves exercise books, Prof. Rim-Rukeh added, “we also distributed 2000 biros and pencils. It is hoped that all these would help to encourage both pupils, teachers and parents to improve the educational standards in the community.”
Prof. Rim-Rukeh called on well meaning individuals and Corporate Organizations in Ovu Community and in diaspora to join hands with the Foundation to improve on the pupils’ educational pursuit in the area.
He added, “permit me to use this medium to call on well meaning individuals and Corporate Organizations from Ovu Community to join the crusade that education still pays and assist the Foundation in achieving her goals of attaining the United Nations Educational Standard for literate society. Ovu Foundation is open for both facilities and financial assistance in achieving this goal.”
The schools that benefited includes Okuodi Primary School, Unuame Primary School, TEA Salubi Primary School, Oviorie Model Primary school, Ezebue Primary School, Urhodo Primary School, Agbaga Primary School, Ejoyovwi Primary School and Ovu Junction Primary School all in Ethiope East Local Government Area.
Presenting note books to pupils, Hon. Chief Augustine U. Ogedegbe, Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area represented by Hon. Ebojoh Ojeh Francis, Secretary of the Local Government (SLG) commended the Foundation for the gesture.
The Council Chairman promised to partner with the Foundation in giving quality education to Ovu children and put smiles on the faces of the children.
Also speaking, Joseph Ejhwjorwo, Chief inspector of Education(CIE), Ethiope East, Local Government Area represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Julie Ataine expressed gratitude to the Foundation for empowering the pupils with writing materials just as she called on well meaning individuals and corporate organizations to emulate the kind gesture of the Foundation.
High point was the presentation of writing materials to the obviously elated pupils.
