The Delta State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Prince Kelly Penawou, has urged council chairmen and councillors across the state to work in harmony to fast-track grassroots development.
Penawou made the call while responding to media questions on allegations that he was sponsoring councillors to impeach the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area.
The Commissioner dismissed the claim as baseless, describing it as the creation of “those who do not mean well for the local government.”
He cautioned individuals behind the report to stop spreading what he termed fake and malicious rumours, warning that the state government would not hesitate to impose stiff sanctions on offenders.
Penawou stressed that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to peace and progress in local councils, insisting that the Governor’s MORE Agenda prioritizes stability, development, and improved livelihoods at the grassroots.

He further questioned the logic behind linking him to the reported rift between the council boss and his legislators, maintaining that he has no interest in fueling internal disputes.
The Commissioner also vowed to take firm action against anyone promoting violence in local government administration, reiterating that 2026 is a year to deliver greater dividends of democracy to Deltans.
He encouraged political office holders and residents to reject violence, uphold peace, and promote cooperation for sustainable development across all local councils.
