Police arrest community chief for defiling minor in Ukwuani, Delta

Police in Delta have arrested Monday Ossai Oshiji, a community chief in Ebedei Ukwuole community in Ukwuani Local Government Council of Delta State, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl (name withheld).

Oshiji is said to be currently in the custody of the Umutu Police Division.

The 50-year-old chief reportedly sexually abused the girl, a Junior Secondary School Student (JSS1) in an uncompleted building.

Oshiji, a father of several children with four wives, lured the girl to an uncompleted building with N500.

According to reports, the chief, who had allegedly slept with the teenager twice, threatened to kill her if she dared tell anyone about his illicit affairs with her.

A source in the community said the chief, who lives close to the girl’s family house, drugged the girl and wanted to have an affair with the girl the third time, but was exposed when she started bleeding excessively.

He said, “The chief has four wives and many children. From the girl’s statement, the chief has allegedly raped her twice.

“Chief Oshiji lives close to the girl’s family house and has been taking advantage of the girl. He has been raping her in an uncompleted building.

“She said the chief threatened to kill her if she tells anybody but the third attempt was what exposed him after he allegedly forced her to take drugs.”

The teenager was said to be bleeding excessively before she confessed to her mother, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, “Yes, he has been arrested and he is currently in the custody of police and the investigation is ongoing,” Edafe said.
