Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have continued their onslaught against criminal elements, neutralising one suspected kidnapper and recovering a cache of arms in separate operations across the state.
In a decisive operation on Monday, 1st December 2025, men of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with community volunteers, stormed Obiaruku forest in Ukwuani Local Government Area where suspected kidnappers were mobilising.
On sighting the police team, the hoodlums opened fire, triggering a fierce gun duel. The superior firepower of the operatives forced the suspects to flee, but one was fatally wounded. Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle loaded with 42 rounds of live ammunition, nine mobile phones and criminal charms.
In a related crackdown between 28th and 29th November, the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested three notorious armed robbery and cult suspects – Victor Oyaye (26, gang leader), Kelvin Oke (42) and Monday Emakpo (31) – in Ughelli, Oghara and Sapele.
Items recovered included two stolen tricycles, one pump-action shotgun, one Beretta pistol and several live cartridges.
Similarly, on 29th November, the Eagle-Net Special Squad commanded by SP Danyaya Inusa intercepted 28-year-old Ezekiel Edeya along the Asaba-Benin Expressway with a locally made cut-to-size pistol, three live cartridges and criminal tools.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the gallantry of the operatives and the support of community stakeholders, saying the successes were products of timely intelligence. All arrested suspects are in custody as investigations continue.
