The Delta State Police Command has recovered one AK-47 rifle with a double magazine in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on Friday, 28 November, said follow-up operations against a notorious cult and armed robbery syndicate had yielded more arrests.
According to DSP Edafe, the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, acting on credible intelligence, stormed suspected hideouts on Tuesday, 25 November, and arrested two additional suspects – Justice Ikutu (38) and Peter Okomeje (55) – in separate locations within Oghara.
A subsequent search of the residence of one Peter Kome, believed to be a key member of the gang, led to the recovery of the assault rifle and other incriminating items.
The latest success came barely 24 hours after police operatives, on 24 November 2025, arrested confessed cultists and seized a pump-action shotgun during an earlier raid in the university town.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the CP-SAT for its professionalism and vowed that the command would not relent until criminal elements were completely flushed out of the state.
He appealed to residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely information, assuring them that all intelligence shared would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
