Presentation of the Staff of Office to Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Michael Orugbo

The atmosphere in Otor-Udu, Udu Local Government Area, was filled with celebration and cultural pride on Friday as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, formally presented the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Engr. Michael Orugbo, Okporua I, the newly recognized Ovie of Udu Kingdom.

Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, described the event as a significant affirmation of unity, traditional heritage, and the collective aspiration for growth within the Udu Kingdom and Delta State at large.

He reiterated that the current administration remains firmly dedicated to delivering prosperity and inclusive development in line with the M.O.R.E. Agenda, emphasizing ongoing improvements in road infrastructure, market expansion, and healthcare services across Udu communities.

A key highlight of the Governor’s remarks was the progress recorded with the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Ovwian, which he said has greatly improved access to quality healthcare not only for Udu residents but also for neighbouring areas.

“Today’s ceremony goes beyond tradition; it is a reaffirmation of peace and communal advancement,” Governor Oborevwori noted.

“His Royal Majesty embodies both cultural guardianship and forward-thinking leadership. I am confident that Udu will continue to thrive under his reign.”

The Governor also assured that his administration is committed to sustaining peace in Udu, particularly through continued mediation efforts toward resolving the long-standing Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh boundary conflict, which has historically affected stability in the region.

Highlighting Udu’s role in Delta State’s economic framework, he noted that the kingdom remains a key industrial hub, hosting the Delta Steel Company, various oil and gas operations, and a wide network of small and medium-scale businesses known for resilience and enterprise.

The Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Vincent Ojiubode, pledged the council’s unwavering support in advancing government development goals within the kingdom.

In his goodwill remarks, Evang. Andrew Dorkie, President-General of Udu Communities, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the ongoing reconstruction of the Udu Main Road up to ECN Junction, describing it as a project of significant social and economic impact.

The ceremony concluded with cultural displays, royal blessings, and expressions of renewed commitment to unity, peace, and progress across Udu Kingdom.

Former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, alongside the Chairman of Ughelli South LGA, attended the presentation of the Staff of Authority to the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, in the presence of the Honorable Commissioner of DESOPADEC,  Okorodudu.
