The PENGASSAN Women Commission (PWC), Warri Zone, has encouraged female students to build their skills in STEM education to reach their full potential.
The Warri Zonal Chairperson, Comrade Eseoghene Mejire, made the appeal during a one-day capacity-building workshop on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) organized by the commission at Urhobo College, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, in celebration of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child.
She explained that the PWC, the women’s arm of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN), is made up of female professionals in the oil and gas sector, with Comrade Engr. Dr. Ada Mbanaso serving as the national Chairperson. The group advocates for women’s welfare and the empowerment of the girl child.
She also reaffirmed the Warri zone’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of female leaders in science and technology. The workshop included basic coding lessons, hands-on STEM activities, and motivational talks from women working in STEM fields.
Participants received gift bags containing coding guides, pens, and water flasks, and the school was presented with a few waste bins to support environmental hygiene. The event was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the students and highlighting the importance of early exposure to STEM for girls.
Dignitaries in attendance included Acting Zonal Chairman Comrade Tosin Olowolagba, Pioneer WIP Comrade Lady Rose, Emeritus National WIP Comrade Faith Usoroh, National PRO PWC Comrade Blessing Okpapi, National PWC Treasurer Comrade Kessienah Agbroko, along with other PWC Chairpersons.
