Residents of communities along the Benin–Sapele Federal Highway say social and economic activities are gradually returning following the intervention of Governor Monday Okpebholo on the once-deplorable road.
For years, life along the corridor was disrupted as residents of over 20 communities staged protests to draw attention to the poor state of the highway, a key route linking the South-South to other regions.
The situation is now changing as rehabilitation works progress across areas such as Limit, Ekai, PZ, Pinot, Mosko, Ewuku and Ogege, with motorists already using completed sections.
According to Independent Television News on Thursday, the intervention also includes the construction of internal roads and the rehabilitation of the old Saple Road in Ogege, supported by surface and underground drainage to tackle flooding.
Residents Daniel Omoebe and Pst Moses Osagede said the state government’s takeover of the project has eased movement and revived business activities.
They expressed appreciation to the governor for addressing long-standing concerns.
An APC chieftain, Hon. Joseph Ogieva, described the road as a vital gateway to the South-South, noting that its reconstruction is already boosting economic activities in the region.
