As part of the activities to mark World Mental Health Day 2025, the Ruby Awareness Initiative Foundation (RAIF) hosted a school outreach at Holywood International School, Asaba. The event centered on the theme: “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”
Organized in collaboration with the Mental Health Department of FMC Asaba, the programme featured talks, a drama performance, and an interactive session. It aimed to educate students on the importance of protecting their mental health, steering clear of drug abuse, and making positive life choices.
Speaking to the students, RAIF founder Mrs. Omonigho Oborevwori encouraged them to stay focused, resist peer pressure, and develop healthy ways to manage stress.
Barr. Oborevwori, a passionate advocate for humanitarian causes and child development, explained that the Foundation’s emphasis on mental health awareness is rooted in its goal to help raise emotionally resilient, confident, and purpose-driven young people.
She also donated Ruby Journals and e-learning devices to the students, encouraging them to use the journals as a personal space to express their thoughts, dreams, and concerns — a simple yet powerful practice that supports mental well-being.
In her opening remarks, Miss Elizabeth Ide, the Foundation’s Programmes Coordinator, emphasized Ruby’s mission to uplift underprivileged children and teenagers — with a special focus on the boy child — by promoting education, mental health awareness, and skill-building opportunities.
The outreach included talks from mental health and medical experts who discussed the root causes, risks, and harmful effects of drug abuse among young people.
The lecture was led by Dr. Adaigho Israel, Consultant Mental Health Physician and Head of the Mental Health Department at FMC Asaba, who also serves as the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Delta State branch. He was joined by Mrs. Patience Okolie and Mrs. Loreen Orishedere.
The session wrapped up with students taking a “Say No to Drug Abuse” pledge, followed by a drama performance and a heartfelt group prayer for the success and bright future of children across Nigeria.
The event was warmly received by the students, who expressed their appreciation to the Foundation for bringing such an important conversation about mental health right to their doorstep.
