Sapele LGA Issues New Rules for Okada and Keke Riders

The Sapele Local Government Council in Delta State has released new operational guidelines for motorcycle (okada) and tricycle (keke) riders in the area.

This was announced in a statement signed by Hon. Raymond Overah, Secretary of Sapele Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure peace, order, and better transportation management across the local government area.

The statement added, “The following directives are to be strictly enforced.”

As outlined in the new guidelines, okada riders are now only allowed to operate between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Additionally, the council stated that all riders must wear reflective vests displaying a clearly visible Area Code Number.

The council further stated that any okada rider caught wearing a face mask while on duty will be immediately apprehended.

For keke operators, the permitted hours of operation are now limited to 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. The council also emphasized that no passenger is allowed to board a keke unless it clearly displays a valid VIO Number on the body.

The guidelines further specify that keke covers must be properly secured, especially during rainy weather.

“Any okada or keke operator found violating these rules will be detained for seven days,” the council secretary added.

Hon. Raymond Overah also warned that anyone caught stealing within the ATP premises will be shot on sight, noting that this directive will take effect 30 days from the date of the announcement.

The statement concluded by urging all okada and keke operators, their unions, and the general public to take note of the new rules and ensure full compliance.
