Sapele Marks Democracy Celebration with Citywide Health Walk

The Chairman of the Sapele Local Government Area in Delta State, Bright Abeke, on Thursday, guided residents, political figures, and community members on a health walk throughout the city.

This health walk was part of the activities celebrating the 2025 Democracy Day.

Starting at the Sapele Township Stadium, the event attracted hundreds of eager participants who walked through the main streets of Sapele, showcasing unity and civic duty.

The route for the health walk included Ajogodo Road, continued along Okpe Road, and made a brief stop at Okpe Grammar School in Amukpe, where the chairman spoke to the participants.

The walk concluded at the Sapele Local Government Secretariat.

Participants showed strong turnout, with many donning matching jerseys that displayed messages promoting unity and fitness.

They waved small Nigerian flags and sang songs of unity throughout the march. In his address to the crowd, the chairman emphasized the significance of physical health and civic responsibility.

He stated, “Today is not merely Democracy Day; it is a moment to recommit ourselves to the health of our communities and the unity of our nation.

“We are walking in support of our efficient governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and our President, Bola Tinubu, whose leadership is paving the way for development.

“Democracy encompasses more than just elections; it involves the well-being of the people.

“We are utilizing this health walk to encourage wellness, community involvement, and backing for leaders who are promoting progress both at the state and national levels,” he remarked.

The Secretary to the Local Government Council, Overah Raymond, praised the initiative as both timely and unifying.

“We take pride in what the chairman is doing. This event transcends a simple walk, it conveys a message of peace, progress, and public health,” he noted.

Another participant, Mrs. Ejiro Edewor, an educator and youth advocate, expressed that the health walk represents a transition in civic celebrations towards inclusivity and well-being.

“This is the first instance I’ve witnessed something like this on Democracy Day,” she commented.

At the end of the health walk, the participants returned to the council secretariat, where they were greeted with light refreshments.
