Super Eagles Semi Ajayi Dreams of Premier League Return

Super Eagles defender Oluwasemilore Ajayi, widely known as Semi Ajayi, has set his sights on a return to the English Premier League. In a recent candid interview, the veteran center-back also moved to clear the air regarding his departure from West Bromwich Albion.

The Semi Ajayi Premier League return remains a primary goal for the 32-year-old. Currently playing for Hull City, Ajayi insists that his move to the “Tigers” was based on ambition rather than physical limitations.

Rejecting the Injury Narrative

During an interview with the UK sports website SportsBoom, Ajayi addressed claims that fitness issues forced him out of West Brom. Although he managed only 15 league appearances during his final season with the Baggies, he dismissed suggestions that his body was failing him.

“I joined Hull City because I like the project,” Ajayi stated firmly. He explained that the decision to sign a two-year deal with Hull on July 1, 2025, was driven by a belief in the club’s long-term vision. He further noted that the “Tigers” offered a realistic path back to the top flight.

A Legacy at West Bromwich Albion

Ajayi’s time at The Hawthorns was highly successful. He spent six seasons with West Brom, totaling 170 league appearances. Most notably, he was a pillar of the defense during the 2019-20 campaign, where he helped the club secure promotion to the Premier League.

Following that promotion, he proved his quality by making 33 appearances in the world’s most competitive league. Consequently, Ajayi knows exactly what it takes to compete at the highest level. He believes he still has the hunger and physical capability to contribute to a Premier League side.

d that the team is fighting hard to give themselves a chance at the play-offs or an automatic spot.

The Ultimate Goal: Top-Flight Football

For the Nigerian international, the mission is clear. “Obviously, it’s a dream to return to the Premier League. It’s not going to be easy, but we can achieve it,” he told SportsBoom.

While he focuses on playing as many games as possible for Hull, the allure of the Premier League remains his driving force. As a result, Super Eagles fans will be watching closely to see if their star defender can lead his new club back to the big stage in 2026.
