Senate orders N200M compensation for family of 2-year-old Ivan killed during NDLEA operation

The Nigerian Senate has directed the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to pay N200 million in compensation to the family of two-year-old Ivan Onose Omhonrina, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet allegedly fired by NDLEA operatives during a drug raid in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The petition was presented by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, who led the call for justice since the tragic incident occurred on July 13, 2023.

Nwoko, presented a petition on behalf of the bereaved family, and followed it up through all legislative channels until it was taken up by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen.

The senators however, observed a minute of silence in honour of the deceased toddler before adopting the recommendation that the NDLEA pay N200 million as compensation to the family for the loss and trauma suffered.
