Seventy Women in Warri South LGA Benefit from Skills Acquisition Program

The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Women Development has commenced a one-week empowerment programme on wig-making and decoration for 70 women in Warri South Local Government Area.

The initiative, tagged Empower Her Machine Wig Training Project: Learn, Earn, Shine, runs from September 22 to 29, 2025, at Ugbuwangue, under the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Development, Hon. Tina Toritsemode Kukune, said the programme will be executed in two phases: training and empowerment.

She noted that participants will receive certificates and sewing machines at the end of the exercise, stressing that the project is designed to uplift women and make them financially independent.

She thanked the state Governor for introducing the programme and tasks the participants to take the programme to heart to enable them help themselves.

Also addressing the beneficiaries, the Assistantutive Assistant Officer to the Governor on Women Mobilisation, Deaconess Mrs Justina Otumaro, encouraged participants to remain focused, describing the initiative as a rare opportunity.

She emphasised that the empowerment scheme would enable women to acquire skills and become self-reliant.

The facilitators, Mrs Benefits Paris and Mr Paris, introduced participants to wig-making techniques, highlighting the use of sewing machines, safety precautions, and common mistakes to be avoided.

They assured the trainees of a practical, well-organised learning process to prepare them for entrepreneurship.

The empowerment programme is one of several women-focused initiatives of the Delta State Government aimed at reducing poverty, promoting self-sufficiency, and improving livelihoods across Warri South and the state at large.
