Southern Delta University appoints Prof Taiga as pioneer Provost of Orerokpe campus

The Governing Council of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, has approved the appointment of Professor Akpovughaye Taiga as the pioneer Provost of Orerokpe Campus of the institution in Okpe, Delta State.

Taiga, a professor of Botany, until his appointment was the Dean of the Faculty of Science of the university.

Prof Taiga’s appointment followed the recommendation of the institution’s Senate during its emergency meeting held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

The Senate recommendation was, however, ratified by the Governing Council on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

Prof. Taiga began his teaching profession as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal University, Yola (now Modibo University) in 1991.

He later moved to Kogi State University, Anyigba in 1999 where he became a Professor of Botany in 2014.

Professor Taiga is a Member of Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON) among other professional bodies.
