Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has extended his gratitude to the mass media for consistently shining a light on the House’s activities.
The Speaker made this commendation at the resumption of plenary session after a three-week break for Easter and Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
Expressing his appreciation, Guwor emphasized, “I cannot thank enough the media that have consistently created visibility for the activities of the House.”
He also lauded the unwavering support and hard work of the Assembly’s management and staff.
Guwor, while outlining the House’s tasks, thanked members for their continuous support for the leadership, stating, “I will continue to count on your cooperation and prayers.”
Highlighting the significance of their role in Delta State’s governance, Guwor urged members to seize every available opportunity to advance and support Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, aimed at delivering prosperity to Deltans.
He emphasized that the legislative agenda of the 8th Assembly would prioritize completion of ongoing projects, infrastructure development, human capital growth, environmental sustainability, SMEs, agriculture and its value chains, women and youth empowerment, digital technology, and above all, peace and security.
Addressing the economic challenges facing the nation, Guwor stressed the need for collective efforts to protect the people, pledging continued collaboration with the Executive for social and economic interventions, particularly for the vulnerable.
As plenary resumed, Guwor urged colleagues to engage constituents on government policies and programs. He also announced nominations for government appointments and a bill for legislative consideration, urging prompt action.
Furthermore, Governor Oberevwori proposed an amendment to enhance collaboration between the state and local councils on signage and advertisement revenue collection, underscoring the importance of administrative efficiency.
During the session, a committee led by the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, was inaugurated to oversee activities marking the first anniversary of the 8th Assembly.
Additionally, the House received and adopted the report of the Committee on Public Petitions, dismissing a petition for lack of merit and affirming the Civil Service Commission’s decision, thereby barring the petitioner from further recourse to the State Assembly.
As the Assembly recommences its duties, its focus remains steadfast on legislative actions aimed at advancing the welfare and development of Delta State and its people.
