Super Eagles B Seek CHAN Revival After Senegal Setback

According to a recent report, Nduka Junior, the captain of the Super Eagles B, believes that the team’s triumph in the Unity Cup has bolstered their ability to recover from difficulties as they prepare for an important African Nations Championship group match against Sudan today in Zanzibar.

Nduka noted that the players quickly moved past recent disappointments, including a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in Uyo that affected the Super Eagles’ prospects for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, showcasing their determination by claiming the Unity Cup title shortly after.

“We are taking each match one step at a time. The draw against Zimbabwe was simply a setback, not a disaster. After that game, we entered the Unity Cup to prove our point, and we came out as champions,” he explained.

The captain highlighted that the players are committed to applying the insights gained from previous matches to improve their performance against Sudan.

Nigeria must achieve a win at the Amaan Stadium, which has a capacity of 15,000, to keep their aspirations alive following a narrow 1-0 defeat to reigning champions Senegal in their first match last week. The Falcons of Jediane, who experienced a late draw against Congo in their opening game, also need a victory to stay competitive.

“We are rectifying every mistake we have made in the past and ensuring that we implement things correctly,” Nduka stated.

Nduka also expressed his feelings on the honor of captaining the national team in such an important continental tournament, describing it as a personal accomplishment.

“Leading the nation as the captain in a major tournament like this is a privilege for me. It’s remarkable to be here, among the best players in the country, and to compete against high-quality teams from countries like Senegal and Sudan who have been performing exceptionally well,” he noted.

The Super Eagles B, who finished as runners-up in the 2018 edition, are set to face Sudan at 6pm local time today, fully aware that only a victory will put them back on the path to qualifying for the knockout stages of the tournament.
