Super Eagles Defender Semi Ajayi Signs with Hull City

Hull City, the previous team of Jay Jay Okocha, has successfully secured the signing of Semi Ajayi, a defender for the Super Eagles, on a two-year deal, according to Soccernet.

The 31-year-old has made 200 appearances in the EFL Championship during his extensive career, which includes spells at Rotherham and West Bromwich Albion, from where he was released last month.

Ajayi faced limitations last season due to hamstring injuries, managing only 14 starts for the Baggies, with just three of those since early November.

In an official statement on Hull City’s website, the three-time EFL League One champions announced the signing of the 43-cap Super Eagle on a two-year contract, with an option for an additional year’s extension.

Hull narrowly escaped relegation in the EFL Championship, thanks to a better goal difference compared to Luton Town, who experienced relegation for two consecutive seasons.

Ajayi shared his enthusiasm for the opportunity at Hull City and highlighted the club’s ambition to return to the top division. “I’m really excited. I spoke with the sporting director (Jared Dublin) and head of recruitment (Martin Hodge), and they conveyed the club’s vision and plans for this season.

“The club aims to compete in the upper tier of the league, and that’s where I see myself competing. After hearing about the vision, I was eager to be part of the project.

“I believe I can offer Championship experience, insight, and leadership. I am comfortable with the ball, strong in aerial challenges, and my speed is an asset that Jared and Martin recognized,” the former Arsenal centre-back noted on Hull’s official website.

“We all understand the challenges that come with the Championship, and I am keen to share my experience with the team.

“I had a successful six years at West Brom, but I am excited about taking on a new challenge now. I am coming in with a strong determination to prove myself once again and perform to the best of my abilities as a Hull City player,” concluded the 2023 AFCON finalist.
