Super Eagles Defender Signs for Bundesliga Side Hamburg

According to reports from BSN Sports, Jordan Torunarigha, a defender for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, is reportedly on the verge of signing with Hamburger SV, a club in the German Bundesliga.

Following the expiration of his contract with KAA Gent, a team in the Belgian Pro League, the versatile defender has been in discussions with Hamburger SV’s management over the past few weeks, who have recently earned promotion.

With their return to the Bundesliga, Hamburg has secured their second summer signing in Jordan Torunarigha (27), who arrives from KAA Gent on a free transfer.

Torunarigha shared his thoughts upon joining HSV: “I am already acquainted with the Bundesliga and look forward to returning to this exceptional league, especially with a club that has the prestigious history of HSV.

“The management has worked diligently to create a positive impression on me. I am eager to meet my new teammates, coaches, and staff, as well as the supporters and the city. I plan to utilize my strengths and experience fully to help secure a successful season while achieving our goals.”

Torunarigha significantly bolsters Hamburg’s defense as they make their return to the top division after being relegated in 2018. The Nigerian defender participated in 73 matches in the Bundesliga during his tenure at Hertha BSC before joining KAA Gent in 2022.

Stefan Kuntz, the HSV board member in charge of sports, noted: “Jordan is a calm, professional, and mature individual.

“He has shown considerable growth in his development, which is evident in his heading and tackling abilities, complemented by his remarkable speed. Jordan aligns perfectly with our needs due to his extensive defensive skills and his ability to initiate play from the back.”
