Players of Nigeria’s senior national football team, the Super Eagles, have officially received their national honours certificates, along with housing and land allocations, in recognition of their second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.
The development was confirmed by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who appeared alongside the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Abdul Ningi.
They explained that the players were conferred with national honours of either Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) or Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), depending on honours previously awarded to individual players, in line with established national award guidelines.
In addition to the honours, the officials disclosed that the housing and land allocations approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, have been fully processed. Certificates of Occupancy for the properties have also been issued, signaling the completion of the reward package promised to the team.
