Super Eagles striker is set to join a new club this summer

Onuachu has faced challenges in making an impact at Southampton since his €18 million move from Belgian club Genk two years ago.

Injuries, managerial changes, and the club’s overall lack of stability have affected his performance, resulting in just 40 appearances over the course of two seasons.

The 31-year-old forward had some success two seasons back when he played for Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor, where he scored 17 goals and assisted four times in 25 matches.

At the end of the loan period, Trabzonspor showed interest in permanently signing Onuachu; however, Southampton’s asking price was considered too high, prompting the Turkish club to withdraw.

Still, speculation about a possible transfer has continued, especially after Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

Recently, a significant update emerged. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Trabzonspor has come to an agreement with Southampton regarding Onuachu’s transfer fee.

The Turkish club is expected to pay €8 million to Southampton. The only detail left to settle is the personal terms, which should not be a problem given Onuachu’s prior relationship with the former Turkish Super Lig champions.

In the coming days, the deal is anticipated to be completed, and Onuachu will be formally introduced as a Trabzonspor player.

Over the years, the club has had several Nigerian players, including former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi, who played for them after his stint at Chelsea.

Moreover, they have also had other prominent players such as Ogenyi Onazi, Isaac Promise, Augustine James, and Victor Shaka.
