The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, arrived Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday ahead of the 9th edition of the National Youth Games. The games are set to kick off on Friday, August 29, 2025.
According to a statement from SWAN Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, other members of the SWAN National Executive Committee (NEC), state chapter chairmen and secretaries, and numerous sports journalists from across Nigeria are also in Asaba to cover the games, which will run from August 26 to September 6, 2026.
Upon arrival, President Benjamin toured the athletes’ and officials’ camping venues, as well as the screening and competition arenas. He noted that activities were gradually picking up, with various state contingents settling in.

In his remarks, President Benjamin expressed optimism that this year’s competition would unearth future stars who would bring pride to their states and Nigeria. He thanked God for the safe arrival of the state contingents and officials from the National Sports Commission. He also emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, urging sports journalists to verify their information and sources.
Accreditation for sports journalists covering the games will be strictly for registered members of the association. Delta State, the defending champion, is a serial winner of the competition.
