The Super Eagles Medical team is diligently working to ensure that the injured goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena and left back Abdulrafiu Taiwo are fit for tomorrow’s crucial match against Sudan in the African Nations Championship, which is taking place in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya.
Nigeria is competing in Group D of the tournament, which also includes Sudan, Senegal, and Congo.
The Eagles, who are hosting the matches, suffered a 0-1 defeat in their opening match against the reigning champions, Senegal, at Amaan Stadium. They are set to face Sudan in their second game tomorrow.
Following last week’s loss, the Eagles find themselves at the bottom of Group D with no points, especially after Congo and Sudan ended their match in a 1-1 draw.
Therefore, the Eagles must secure a victory against Sudan tomorrow to have a chance of advancing in the tournament. However, this opportunity is jeopardized due to the injuries of two key players, who only resumed training yesterday.
As reported by team sources, The Guardian learned that both players have returned to training with the squad, but the coaches are concerned that their fitness levels may not be adequate for the match against Sudan.

“Taiwo, the left back from Rivers United, sustained an injury during the game against Senegal, and Ozoemena, the primary goalkeeper from Enyimba, is still recuperating from a knee injury. Although he has rejoined training, he might not be fit enough to participate against Sudan,” the source mentioned.
He also indicated that the team began preparations for the Sudan match immediately after their game against Senegal. They will conduct a final training session tonight to determine who will be fit to play in the upcoming match.
